The Great Blue Heron majestically stalks the wetlands alongside blue water on this silver pendant. The stone is a Peruvian blue opal. I hand sawed and stamped the bronze heron, giving it multiple layers to add realism and three dimension. The tall grasses on both sides are copper, which have been curved, antiqued and polished. Behind the stone, I sawed out a couple of little fish that are doing their best to keep out of the heron's line of sight.

The bail is riveted. The back is sterling silver; the bezel around the stone is fine silver.

This pendant was inspired by a heron (or possibly multiple herons - I can't really tell them apart) that visits our pond almost daily looking for frogs and salamanders. I am always amazed by their patience as they stand, sometimes on one leg as this one does, for long periods of time waiting for the right moment to stab down into the water.

If you love nature and enjoy getting comments on your jewelry, this pendant is for you. An added bonus is that opal is one of October's birthstones!
